About My Clients
I specialize in empowering women and guiding them to recognize the power they hold! It is easy to forget how powerful we are! I am an expert in trauma/PTSD, especially the after effect of toxic and manipulative relationships. I love to see my clients find themselves and feel good in their own skin! I also help people with anxiety & depression, as well as struggles in life related to sexual identity & life changes such as aging, marriage, children, parents, careers, body image, & relationships.
My Background and Approach
I have always been interested in people, wondering why they do what they do. My curiosity of people and my love of art, led me to becoming an art therapist. Using art within therapy is a way to gain new insights, access unconscious thoughts and better understand emotions because it is using another part of the brain that talk therapy alone cannot. I incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) because it is a powerful technique to change negative thinking. I am a believer because it helped me with anxiety, depression & PTSD. Another approach that I include is Internal Family Systems (IFS). This system helps to de-stigmatize mental health by seeing that we have many 'parts', we are not just anxious, worried, sad, stressed, awkward, weird, etc. We are also creative, smart, strong, kind, loving, & on and on. IFS operates under the assumption that we are all good, whole, positive, & strong individuals. We just need to better understand our 'parts' in order to feel better.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that YOU are the expert and I am a guide that just happens to know some things that will help you feel better so you can get on with your life. Seriously. You are the expert of you. It is important to recognize this as it will help to empower you (one of my main goals with all of my client's therapy). When you are empowered, you can more easily create change. Change is hard, but so are you! You might not feel that way today but you CAN feel that way. Therapy helps. I want my clients to feel comfortable with me and in our sessions. I pride myself on being non-judgmental. It sounds like that should be what all therapists do but unfortunately, that isn't always the case. I am a PROUD LGBTQ+ ally, emphasis on the Q, because, aren't we all??? I do not tolerate hatred or -isms. I welcome weirdos, nerds, geeks, and all of the above. You will be in good company here. I will work to 'get you', to really hear you, to understand you and to accept you, so that you can 'get yourself'.
