Trauma is what happens to us that overwhelms our ability to cope for an extended period of time. Trauma is different and personal to each individual. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit, and that we are not the things that happen to us. I begin where the client is, focusing at first on building the skills needed to begin to thrive. When my clients are ready we focus on processing the trauma identified.
EMDR therapy has proven to be effective in treating trauma and PTSD, as well as anxiety. It helps to desensitize and reprocess the idenitifed targets and memories, even physical sensations. It is a unique ability and skill that can help with anxiety, panic disorders, depression and even complex PTSD.
I use attachment theory as a basis to meet the client where they are, authentically and wholeheartedly. It is a process to understand, communicate and experience the client's life experiences with them, and to help them gain their own insights. I utilize attachment theory as the basis for understanding the individuals development, impacting their relationships, work and life. When we look through this lens we increase a sense of connection and safety.
