Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Santa Rosa, CA
I work with clients who are having difficulty, with adjusting to their new life transitions. Examles of transitions can be moving away from your family and friends, leaving a job or career, starting a new job or career, getting married, starting a family, and ending a relationship or a friendship. Transitions are not easy for people to adjust to, which can cause great emotional distress, so they seek out therapy for support.
I often treat clients who come into therapy, because they are experiencing emotional burnout, in one or many areas of their life. They find themselves going through the motions of life, but because of burnout, they are not emotionally present, or satisfied in their life choices. People seek out help, in wanting to learn coping skills, to decrease the symptoms or signs of burnout. Symptoms include depression and anxiety.
I have years of experience, working with clients who are co-depdendent in their intimate relationships. I have specifically witnessed this dynamic in domestic violence relationships, making it hard for the victim to leave, or to change their abusive partner. They don't know how to express their feelings, or ask for their needs. Too often they are self sacrificing, to be needed, and to please their partner, resulting in high anxiety and depression symptoms.
I have years of experience, working with clients who are co-dependent, in their intimate relationships. I have witnessed this dynamic specifically in domestic violence relationships. The co-dependent person, has difficulty with identifying their feelings, asking for their needs, they will self sacrifice to please their partner/spouse, to feel needed, which creates high levels of anxiety and depression. They cannot count on their partner/spouse for support, and often deny their need for support.
I am certified as a Mindfulness-Informed Professional. Through this certification I can provide clients with helpful tools, to be more present or aware with their feelings and thoughts and to alleviate stress related issues, that cause emotional and/or physical distress.
As a minority I am culturally aware, through my life experiences and education, of the issues that minorities continue to face today. With great honor, I respect people from all cultures. I continue to keep myself educated, with learning through my client's unique cultural experiences, to avoid stereotyping, or making assumptions or judgements of one's culture. I appreciate the diversity that comes with each person.
I use the Psychodynamic therapy approach with clients, to build a strong therapeutic relationship, to create trust and a safety, to work through difficult or painful issues. This approach helps clients with self reflection, as we explore their relationship patterns and behaviors, from their past, to understand how it impacts their relationships presently.
