Many of my past clients identify within the queer community. My clients have found safety, unconditional care and non-judgement with therapy with me. I understand the complex dynamics of LGBTQ issues, including the potential impacts and challenges that can be faced in the home, with families of origin, work, school, and religion. I understand that folks who identify as LGBTQIA very often are faced with additional struggles and challenges that our cis and straight brothers and sisters do not.
I worked for several years specializing in childhood sexual abuse and assault. I also have several years of experience in a hospital setting in which I worked with patients experiencing various traumas from motor vehicle accidents, assaults, gunshot and knife wounds, and other physical traumas. I worked with family members of these patients as well. I am a certified trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapist, and approach therapy from a strengths based, trauma informed perspective.
Working with folks who have be impacted by sexual abuse or assault is my area of speciality and passion. I am a certified facilitator for the training: Stewards of Children, which is a training gear to adults on learning how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to childhood sexual abuse. I have worked with youth, adolescents, and adults who have experienced severe and complex sexual assault(s). I believe wholeheartedly that a person who has experienced sexual abuse or assault can heal.
I am a certified Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I work with patients to identify, challenge, and replace negative and maladaptive thought patterns. I utilize CBT as a primary base, however I pull from a variety of therapeutic models and techniques to cater to each individual therapeutic needs.
