As a former minister, I have professional training and experience in understanding the unique beliefs and practices of a wide range of religious communities. While so much of our spiritual lives are enriching and joyous, so many of us have had experiences in church or synagogue that have been shaming, judgmental, cruel and traumatizing. Trying to develop a personal spiritual path can be wondrous and terrifying at the same time. It is possible with professional help.

Human life is such a complex experience, but anxiety remains at the center. Our brains are on the lookout 24/7 to keep us safe. While all of us understand that some anxiety is just part of life, chronic or dangerous levels of stress and anxiety need immediate attention in order to restore a healthier life balance. I work with clients using cognitive, body-based, emotion and trauma centered approaches to heal high anxiety and feel home again in the self.

I help people restore their most important relationships: the ones they have with loved ones, community and the self. Central to our lives are the ways we feel and behave with our family of origin, our chosen relationships of marriage or partnership, and other close relationships such as friends, co-workers, neighbors and community. When these core relationships are rocky or in danger of ending, well researched family system strategies can help restore equilibrium in less easy relationships.

We all exist in families, whether they served us well or not. Wrestling with the experiences and patterns of our family may be the most important way we grow into our own place in the world. The intergenerational world of families is my passion and expertise. I am trained to think about family as a deeply unique but common human experience that can be better understood and explained using Family Systems Theory.
