About My Clients
Everything about the way I engage in therapy is about connecting you to your innate wisdom. If you can think and talk circles around your problems but still struggle with unresolved trauma, I am here for it. I work well with anxiety, a lost sense of self, people pleasing, dissociation, anger and honestly, lots more. I've taken a very deep dive into the world of Somatic Experiencing® and am so impassioned at the beauty of what it can do -- what YOU can do.
My Background and Approach
Somatic Experiencing is about getting you into your body to get back in touch with your survival energies and instincts, because the physiological mechanisms of anxiety is literally all about survival. Should you decide to work with me, you'll get to know me as a human being first and professional second. We'll laugh, we'll joke, we'll cry, you'll try some strange things... I'll ask you to slow down, and try some more strange things... ultimately with an end goal of unearthing your calm, passion for life, sense of connectedness and empowerment from within. I have always had a passion for the mind-body connection, and for that reason hold an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and a prior career as a Massage Therapist. I'm also enrolled in Peter Levine's comprehensive 3 1/2 year long program on Somatic Experiencing, and have completed an advanced course on (appropriate) somatic touch work designed either for SEPs or bodyworkers.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
“If you bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth will save you. If you don't bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth can destroy you.” Peter Levine (founder of SEI and the entire somatic movement) starts his book, "Waking the Tiger," with this quote from the Gnostic Gospels. It encapsulates a deep spiritual belief I have that our innermost self is Sacred, and hold the answers we're looking for -- as well as how vital it is to own the primitive, animalistic part of ourselves. Anybody who has experienced or witnessed rage understands the danger in untamed survival instincts; as well as the power. Only when we are willing to explore these animalistic parts of ourselves can we also start to stand tall with full, conscious control and awareness of who and what we really are.
