I have used motivational interviewing over the past 15 years in practice. I used it more specifically for 3 years while working with youth who had substance abuse disorders. This treatment modality also worked when working in the hospital setting for those youth who had chronic health conditions.
I have used solution focused a lot in my years of practice specifically with my older youth/ young adolescents who may be resistant to therapy at first. I have found that solution focused therapy really helped engage those youth which then allows them to open up for more progress in therapy.
I have spent the majority of my years in practice using CBT. I spent most of my years working with youth who have experienced some form of trauma and in doing that I was trained in trauma focused CBT. I continue to use CBT regularly for youth who are experiencing depression and anxiety.
