I bring holistic, family-centered approaches to help children & families find support & solutions to problems, both big & small.
Social Worker in Eagan, MN
Having a holistic approach means that we are all working together to get to a place where parenting feels joyful (at least some of the time)! I may be an expert in childhood but you are the expert when it comes to your child. Having an open, working partnership helps everyone feel good about the work we're doing together.
Often, we think of trauma as the "Big T's": Fire, accident, violence. What we don't often talk about is the cumulative "Little t's" that build up over time. I believe in acknowledging all the trauma, big & small, in an effort to integrate & understand feelings & the behaviors that often go along with them.
I believe that behavior is the language of children, so I provide them space to play out the things that are hard for them in their lives. We use toys, books, & games to help them share their concerns while also helping them understand what they're thinking/feeling/doing.
Children with anxiety don't always look like they have anxiety. I enjoy helping children & their families gain an understanding of how their brains work so no one has to feel alone with their feelings. I work with folx to help them find strategies that aren't off the shelf but instead are created with the unique needs of the child & the family system as a whole.
Parenting has always been pretty difficult--but parenting during a pandemic has definitely upped the difficulty level! Raising tiny (and not so tiny) humans shouldn't feel so overwhelming & hopeless. I work with caregivers to help them decode their child's behaviors & unlock the joy in caregiving again. Common concerns I see are related to challenging behaviors, frustration, limit-setting, & providing a guide for responsive parenting.
