About My Clients
Many LGBTQ+ people have a hard time finding a place to turn when life goes wrong. This leaves us wondering “is there something wrong with me?” I'm a queer therapist who understands the unique support LGBTQ+ folks deserve so you can find confidence and live the life you want. As an LGBTQ+ person, you deserve a therapist who knows the unique struggles of being queer. Together, we can find the life you want to live.
My Background and Approach
I grew up in the churches and cornfields of Iowa. I knew I was gay when I was 11 and spent the next thirteen years of my life trying to come to terms with my sexuality and what people around me taught. These were years of shame, fear, bargaining with God, and struggle. My own therapist helped me see that I can live a happy, fulfilling life. Now, I help others discover the same. I work in a client-centered way, with a preference for depth based work. This means that while we'll certainly spend time working on your symptoms, we'll also go deeper and ask why your symptoms are there to begin with. I specialize in working with issues of abuse and also have extensive experience working with queer people who have religious trauma. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the state of Washington (#MC60884578).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that transformation happens through relationship and that the therapy relationship is a very special container for transformation. As a queer person myself, it's deeply important to me that we all have access to competent queer mental health providers. While religion is often not part of the work I do with clients, I also know the deep trauma of growing up in evangelical Christian spaces as a queer person. If you are looking for a therapist who understands those intersections from lived-experience, we should connect.
