"Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift" - Mary Oliver
Creative Art Therapist in Rochester, NY
As an Endorsed Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMH-E), I am highly trained in the unique social/emotional, developmental and attachment needs of young children 0-6. I have supported children and their caregivers that have experienced trauma, separation, grief, loss, abuse & neglect professionally for 7 years. I have supported children and their caregivers around diagnoses of developmental delays, neurological and developmental disorders for 12 years.
In my work adjacent to the Child Welfare system in an urban setting, I often worked with families who experienced multi-generational trauma, including families who were involved in social services for multiple generations. There is no denying the historical trauma of racism, and the intersection of race, privilege and trauma. Trauma is passed on through epigenetics, and manifests in our bodies and mental health.
I have worked directly with the parent-child attachment relationship as a psychotherapist working with children in the context of their families. Healthy and Secure Attachment early on with consistent, emotionally available caregivers can lead to lifelong mental health and wellness. When there is an absence of healthy attuned relationships, we may struggle with other relationships. However, it's never too late to try to repair the early childhood trauma of insecure attachment.
I am a Board Certified Music Therapist and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. I consider our relationship with music and how it connects us to our cultural selves, how it shows up in the rhythms of our days, and how the non-verbal and creative aspect of it can connect us to our subconscious and things we don't have words for.
My psychotherapy practice is grounded in attachment theory, and relationship-based care. Our early relationships lay the foundation for who we are and how we are and I approach the therapeutic relationship with an attachment-focused lens.
As a family trauma therapist and music therapist working with children and families that have experienced acute, chronic, multigenerational trauma, I specialize in treating trauma and bring a trauma-informed approach to therapy.
