About My Clients
My clients range from 13-35 and encompass all gender identities, sexual orientations, races, and ethnicities. My clients are eager to work as a collaborative team with a professional therapist who will *challenge* them and aide them in learning new tangible coping skills for day to day life. My diverse clients may need further support in managing anxiety, depression, identity, life transitions, stress, substance use, and anger management.
My Background and Approach
The tools that I will provide you with stem from a trauma-informed and solution-focused approach. I enjoy focusing on solutions which differs from some forms of traditional talk therapy. I believe that these solutions already lie within you and I will act as a guide who challenges you to adopt new perspectives for dealing with stressors. I believe that therapy is collaborative and compassionate, always allowing my client to be the expert of their own lives and experiences while remaining non-judgmental. We will discuss mindfulness practices, the mind-body experience, neuroscience, and cognitive restructuring tools to help you gain understanding of suffering and find relief.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every individual is deserving of compassion, honesty, support, and growth. As a full time social worker in the corrections system, I have adopted a social justice perspective when intervening with individuals who are directly or indirectly affected by the criminal justice system. Due to my extensive background in neuroscience and research, I approach presenting stressors, such as addiction, from a "disease" model that encompasses the biological factors that influence our behavior. I am a member of the LGBT+ community and believe in health at any size.
