Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us understand how our Thoughts and Feelings cause us to act, either positively or negatively. CBT teaches skills that allow us to stop and think about a particular situation before we commit to any course of action. It also teaches techniques and coping skills to assist in controlling our emotions through Positive Reframing. Positive Reframing is a way to look at a situation from a positive rather than a negative point of view. It opens up our perspective.
ACT is used to help my clients accept and embrace self with flaws, rather than finding fault in and blaming self. By improving self acceptance, individuals are able to explore their options and possibilities without self blame, fault, or shame being carried into their experiences which can be freeing in and of itself.
Motivational Interviewing can be helpful in having my clients understand how their chosen actions are influencing quality of life. If poor choices are frequently made, how are these choices not only hurting, but also keeping self distant from those their is a desire to be close to. Together, we will examine all there is to gain by exploring how making better choices can improve quality of life.
