I have a special interest in working with individuals/couples with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, loss, relationship/marital concerns, and ADD/ADHD
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Bloomington, IL
I have been trained in Level I and Level 2 EMDR, and have worked with many clients to decrease traumatic memories and find peace and contentment that was not possible before. I have witnessed many find that the EMDR process has allowed those traumatic memories to no longer have power in their lives. Through incorporating EMDR regularly in my practice, clients have been able to move forward in their lives without the anxiety and depression that had been there before.
I have had extensive training in the Gottman Method, and have incorporated the principals of Drs. John and Julie Gottman in most of the couples work that I do. In the 25 years I have been a therapist, educating clients on Gottman techniques such as the Four Horsemen, Sound Relationship House, flooding, turning towards your spouse, allowing influence, bids for connection, etc., have all increased the connection amongst couples seeking treatment.
I have been incorporating CBT strategies for most of my therapy career. I particularly find the "Killing the ANTS" exercise from Dr. Daniel Amen, of the Amen Clinics (in which I have become a Certified Brain Health Coach), to be very meaningful to clients. In this, we discuss the Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTS) that get in our way and steal our joy. Often, our ANTS can cause great anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, and depression. This has been a powerful strategy to employ with clients.
