Licensed Professional Counselor in Foxfield, CO
I have clinical experience treating clients with a history of psychological trauma, such as abuse, assault, and adverse childhood experiences. The two therapies that I use, ACT and DBT, are evidence-based treatments for Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. I'm strongly interested in trauma theories, neuroscience, psychoneurobiology, and interpersonal neurobiology. I've completed three graduate level courses in trauma. I regularly attend trauma-related conferences and trainings.
For training, I've completed Brainspotting levels 1 and 2. I am currently currently training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
My history with anxiety led me to be an anxiety specialist. I have lots of empathy, clinical training, and practical experience. I have many tools and techniques that we can leverage as we face your anxiety together. I've treated a variety of anxiety disorders, situational anxiety, cultural anxiety, social/relationship anxiety, and versions of anxiety like perfectionism and imposter syndrome.
My expertise with Highly Sensitive Person (also called sensory processing sensitivity) is based on personal and professional experience. I've completed Dr. Elaine Aron's books and video training. I'm a member of several groups for ongoing consultation and growth in this area.
Stress is universal and one of the biggest issues of our time. I've supported clients as they recover from past and current stressors, such as childhood adversity, burnout, exhaustion, cultural stress, and stress-related physical and mental health issues. I also do public speaking engagements to get the word out about stress reduction and stress management.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that is effective for a variety of issues. ACT is culturally sensitive because it doesn't assume you're the problem, it assumes you have normal human problems. ACT encourages you to connect with yourself, take purposeful action, and maintain focused yet flexible engagement with your life. We aim to achieve tangible results by focusing on what you value, what works, and what moves you forward.
I am trained in EMDR and multiple types of trauma treatment. I have clinical experience treating many types of trauma, such as single-incident trauma, developmental trauma, complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, cultural trauma, and vicarious trauma.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is an evidence-based therapy that can be used for stress reduction, posttraumatic growth, and changing negative beliefs. I am a member of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA) and I attend ongoing EMDR trainings and conferences.
My favorite mindfulness-based therapy is Compassion Focused Therapy. I also integrate an approach called Mindful Self Compassion. In my experience, self compassion is an important driver of positive outcomes. It's an essential element of self satisfaction. When we lack self compassion, we tend to judge ourselves harshly and feel isolated, different, or inferior. Research shows that low self compassion is common across many diagnoses and issues.
Burnout is a mental, physical, and emotional state that looks like a mix of depression and anxiety. Some of the most common forms of burnout are pandemic fatigue, work burnout, parenting burnout, caregiving fatigue, and compassion fatigue. I am trained in multiple therapies and approaches to support burnout recovery and burnout resistance.
