About My Clients
It is my hope to work with you to better understand yourself, and create a sense of safety within yourself. No person exists in a vacuum, so I will encourage you to reflect on your past, and how it influences your present. I believe that lasting change requires diving deep to address deep rooted patterns. I work primarily with teens, pre teens and young adults who are working through life transitions, mood disruption or gender/sexuality exploration.
My Background and Approach
I incorporate aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into my practice alongside traditional talk therapy. I certainly do not have strict rules for sessions, and if we end up playing Uno, Trivial Pursuit or even Charades, it's clearly what you found to be helpful, and that's what I care about. Throughout sessions, I will incorporate narrative therapy, pop culture, and current events to encourage you to reflect on how the world is dynamic, and how you participate in it, after all, it is YOUR WORLD.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I use an approach called Systems Therapy. Have you noticed that there are reliable patterns in your family and relationships? Maybe conversations escalate in a very predictable way. We all exist in a system of relationships; family, friends, co-workers, your relationship with teachers, the grocery store staff, and so on. We engage with different components of these systems through interconnectedness, circular dependency, or even by strict cut off. How we show up in relationships is a direct result of the relationships that created who we are. Feminist and Queer Theory both serve as tools to look at the intersection of your identities; sexuality, gender, socioeconomic status, immigration status, ability, etc. Each of these individual identities offer their own strengths and challenges; feminist and queer theory looks at how the culmination of your identities have shaped who you are.
