About My Clients
My style fits well with couples, young adults and adolescents as my background experience has been primarily with adolescents in the juvenile justice system. I also have a special understanding of the life transition issues that young adults deal with as they transition to adulthood. Within these age groups I have treated Major Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizoaffective Disorder, personality disorders, ADHD, PTSD, Adjustment Disorders, and Disruptive, conduct, and impulse control disorders.
My Background and Approach
I use a blend of approaches that meet the needs of the client. However, I primarily use a Client Centered approach in interacting with my clients. I believe that individuals hold the answers to most of their concerns, but benefit from having an empathic listener to reflect back and hold on to what burdens them while providing with alternative methods to address what ails them. I also focus on early childhood experiences as they are the foundation for which we build our patterns of relating to others. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a way to rewire neuro-pathways and train the brain to think in alternative ways that decrease emotional suffering. Alongside these major approaches, I also employ mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, skills training, Trauma-Focused care, grief counseling, Existential Therapy, and multi-cultural counseling catering to 1st generation children of immigrants.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I decided to become a therapist when I learned that a lot of mental health conditions that can go awry in childhood can easily be prevented through "good enough" parenting and proper care and acceptance. My main drive in continuing this work came from realizing that the desire to be accepted unconditionally does not go away with age and we have to find ways to meet these needs as adults. My role is in helping you meet these needs through identifying the barriers to finding self acceptance/compassion and finding ways to mitigate them through self discovery and healing.
