Relationships are hard! I use Narrative and attachment theory to help you form a partnership with each other against any challenges that arise. Our work together involves understanding the point of view each person brings into the relationship. We may also use assessments to help you understand why you each feel the way you do. I'll provide tools and practice to help you move forward through challenges with as little pain as possible.
I have experience with clients who are in the process of discovering their sexual identity, their gender identity and those who are having sexual challenges. We can work together to help you process what you are feeling, and navigate the world with the identity you choose.
I believe that all consensual sexual preferences are healthy. I have had training in human sexuality and am continuing my training to work toward certification in sex therapy. I use talk therapy in a non-judgmental atmosphere to help you work through challenges you are facing.
Narrative therapy is a strengths-based theory in which the therapist helps you to consider the stories about yourself and the world that you have internalized, which may be affecting the way you currently perceive challenges that arise. Narrative therapists make a point to lead with curiosity and will walk alongside you in discovery. Using a Narrative perspective, I can help provide you with a framework to understand the challenges you are experiencing and any changes you wish to make.
In Solution focused therapy our focus is on determining your goals and how to achieve them. It is a systems based theory in which will can still consider your influences and the patterns that present themselves in your family of origin. This type of therapy is typically more brief, and our main focus can be accomplishing the goals you set for yourself.
I use the Prepare-Enrich assessment as a tool to help us determine the strength and growth areas for your partnership. This information will inform our discussions about typical challenges married couples have. I will provide tools to navigate life challenges together as a team and help you to practice them. Premarital counseling generally takes between six and ten sessions.
