About My Clients
My ideal clients are neuroatypical, polyamorous queers figuring this life thing out, needing support & want to make art about it. They desire validation of their dreams & passions & long for encouragement in pursuing them. I strive to meet clients where they're at, support their in-the-moment needs & "show up" with & for them; physically & emotionally. My ideal clients are actively engaged in Art Therapy with me in my studio & have open minds about what processing & healing can look like!
My Background and Approach
I received my Bachelor’s in Art Therapy - UW - Superior in 2007 & my Master's in Art Therapy & Counseling - Southwestern College, Santa Fe, NM in 2016. Currently working towards Board Certification in Art Therapy (ATR-BC) & under professional supervision. I have a background in social services, working with adults with disabilities in day programs & a crisis residence for adults with SPMI. I worked with Art Therapy of MN from January 2019 until I started my own practice at the start of 2023. I most commonly use a person-centered approach; I believe in an individual's capacity & desire for growth, that art therapy can shed light on the issues that we encounter in our lives & in my ability to see my clients for their true potential. I believe in balance - there is always a both/and - both light & dark, both growth & rest, both hurt & healing. Making room for how capable we are of holding BOTH is key. Slow is fast. Art Therapy = Process over Product.
My Values as a Therapist
I identify as a neuroatypical, polyamorous, gender-fluid queer . It is very important to me to be a mental health resource to the LGBTQ+ community. I am constantly learning about my own privilege as white, cis-passing person with access to healthcare. I strive to be aware of what is going on in the world, show up when I can & support in other ways when I cannot. I support the dismantling of patriarchy, I support abandoning the systems that work against the people & I support the fighting of racism, homophobia, xenophobia, & general prejudice practices that are running rapid in our country today. I am currently working towards breaking the trauma patterns & ancestral narratives, passed down through my family. Consent is mandatory & it's definition has made it's way into my daily life; if the answer is not an "enthusiastic yes", I often consider that valuable data.
