My Background and Approach
I received a BA in English Language & Literature from Smith College and studied at Vassar College for my junior year away. I taught English, Creative Writing and Visual Art at numerous private schools throughout the East Coast. I received my MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in Education from American University in DC. While attending graduate school, I finished writing a poetry book. I taught as an Adjunct Professor of College Writing for five years at American University. Designing a writing curriculum on psychology content led me to create a psychology education channel on the Psychology, Anthropology and Philosophy of Romantic Love. I am trained in Attachment Styles, IFS, CBT, EMDR, DBT, ACT, Somatic Therapy, Complex Trauma, PTSD & C-PTSD, Oxytocin and Ketamine Assisted Therapy. Prior to counseling in private practices, I interned at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in DC where I group counseled and provided addiction education to patients on every unit.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe the path towards growth begins with a dream: the desire to reach your full potential. Maybe you must heal. Maybe you want to turn self-defeating beliefs into positive affirmations. Maybe you are stuck in the same relational patterns. Or maybe you want to undergo personality or character change. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story with me can make all the difference in your journey towards self-actualization. In our first session, we will uncover whether you need symptom relief or to work through interpersonal problems, maladaptive patterns to create adaptive behaviors, or deep-rooted problems. In the exploration stage and insight stage, I will work alongside you to tell your life narratives, and then I will use challenges to disrupt problematic narratives; finally, we will use interpretations to help you rewrite your narrative in a more productive light and to think about your concerns from different perspectives to take corrective action.
