Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Illinois
The journey toward parenthood is one that involves aspects of your physical, psychological, relational, and spiritual health. While my hope for you is that your journey to parenthood is smooth, I am here if your reproductive story is not what you expected. Many new parents experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy or postpartum. The good news is that treatment is very effective.
As humans, we are wired to live in intimate connection with others. However, sometimes along the way we struggle with these intimate connections. In couples therapy I can help you at any point in your relational journey with your partner. I specialize in working with couples on issues of cohabitation, communication and conflict, infidelity, and parenting. As a licensed marriage & family therapist, I have specialized training on effective strategies to improve relational functioning.
As a trained divorce mediator (a non-attorney divorce professional), I can work with couples to disentangle their relationship during the process of separation as they consider aspects of co-parenting. Research tells us that the ways in which parents communicate and coordinate following separation have major impacts on child outcomes. I can help you navigate this difficult journey.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist I have extensive training in research-informed approaches to treat a range of issues that inflict relationship satisfaction. When working with couples, I help them understand and directly change the underlying patterns that are causing distress and preventing intimacy. I do this through the use of direct interventions within session to create impactful relational change that couples can then go on to continue to work through in-between sessions.
We as humans feel most secure when we trust our partner will be there for us and respond to our needs, however we define that. When this doesn't happen, trust and security can be damaged. When working with couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy, a research-informed approach, to help couples improve their sense of security with one another by helping them develop new ways of connecting and communicating with each other.
As a certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator I can work with couples prior to marriage to assess areas of strength and areas for growth to develop specific skills couples can work on both in and outside of therapy.
