Using this approach we focus on the present and understand what is really happening in your life right now, rather than what you may perceive to be happening based on your past experience. You are encouraged to experience past situations in session, perhaps through re-enactment. Through the gestalt process, you learn to become more aware of how your own negative thought patterns and behaviors are blocking true self-awareness and making you unhappy.
This approach blends attachment theory, developmental neuroscience and arousal regulation in order to help move couples towards a securing functioning relationship. In our work I will focus on moment-to-moment shifts in your face, body, and voice, and ask you to pay close attention to these as a couple. We will create experiences similar to those troubling your relationship and help you work through them in real time during the session.
Through this approach we explore how it's important that you maintain fulfilling and satisfying relationships with those around you in order to maintain emotional health. We work towards forging a strong, collaborative, and secure relationship that can serve as a model for future relationships you wish to develop. Other relationships can be measured against this supportive one to determine if they are constructive or destructive.
