Anxiety can be a major area of struggle and impacts life in so many varying ways. While often it can seem annoying when told you can challenge your anxiety, it really is a possibility. I have experience with helping individuals challenge their distorted thinking and begin to believe in themselves again. My expectation is not to have all anxiety rid from you life, that is not a realistic expectation, my goal instead is to help you lessen the level so it is not having as much of a negative impact.
Google tells you that person-centered therapy is where the client does most of the talking. This can seem incredibly intimidating. However, my belief is that you are the expert of your own life. The therapeutic relationship is at the core of change in treatment and this can not be effectively accomplished if I am taking a larger role in your healing than you. As your therapist I will provide insight, empathy, and the space for you to heal.
Depression is like a thief that gradually starts to take away the things that once brought you joy. I have experience working with clients who are struggling with major depression and feel like giving up. I have experience working with non-suicidal self harm, previous suicide attempts, and suicidal thoughts. I have helped clients find the light again and to once again believe in the dreams that got to seem so far out of reach.
Simply being a member of the LGBTQ+ community in no way makes me an expert on all things related to it. I do however, have experience working with clients who are struggling with coming out and accepting their sexual orientation, exploring their gender identity and expression, as well as navigating life as an LGBTQ+ person. I will work along side you to explore this part of you and how it impacts other aspects of your identity and everyday life.
Although not huge on techniques, there is great value had in learning some basic CBT tools while in therapy. I have experience teaching CBT tools to clients to identify their faulty thinking, challenge it, and use to then alternative coping skills for sustained change.
