About My Clients
Are you dealing with a new diagnosis of cancer or other serious illness? Are you caring for an aging family member, or supporting a loved one with a serious illness? Are you grieving the loss of "your person?" I have worked with many clients in your shoes, and I look forward to working with you, too. I counsel teens and adults of all ages, from high school students to elders. I provide individual therapy and consults for couples.
My Background and Approach
I’ve completed training in grief and loss counseling, psychodynamic therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the neurobiology of trauma, palliative care advocacy, spiritual care, mindfulness techniques, and holistic end-of-life care. Prior to starting my practice, I worked in teaching hospitals, a comprehensive cancer center, a large non-profit hospice and palliative care organization, and in community mental health. I fully understand the health care system and how bewildering and frustrating these environments can be. Clients tell me that it's tremendously helpful for them to have a safe, peaceful, nonjudgmental space, focused on YOU, where you don't have to take care of anyone else. I want you to tell the truth about your feelings, and I'll help you gain new insights or a new perspective, and help you create a plan for taking care of yourself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strive to be warm, affirming, and culturally sensitive, and I am personally rooted in a desire for social justice. When I am not with my clients or my family, I am a busy activist and volunteer in the gun violence prevention movement, in my progressive faith community, and at my daughter’s school.
