About My Clients

During our sessions, we will focus on both current factors (what is happening in your life in the present) and historical factors (what happened in your childhood and past relationships). Together, we will seek to make sense of your experiences and how you would like to see yourself, your relationships, and your life experience transform.

My Background and Approach

I have always been a helper and listener. Even before I became a licensed psychologist, I came to understand just how much better people feel when they are truly listened to. Our struggles come from getting stuck in old ways of protecting ourselves from difficult feelings, memories, or thoughts. In our sessions, I help uncover these protections, recognize their triggers, and find new, constructive ways to cope and move forward. It is this process of working through difficult memories and accepting difficult parts of yourself that will allow you to open the door to change and healing. Throughout my education and various trainings, I have explored many areas of practice and treated an array of mental health issues. My experience includes working in a community clinic, several rehabilitation centers, a psychiatric hospital, a college counseling center and an eating disorder center. My particular areas of expertise are working with substance use, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that a trusting relationship between therapist and patient is the key to effective therapy, and I view myself as an active contributor to the therapeutic process, partnering with you to create an understanding of your unique challenges. I work to foster an open, caring, and compassionate environment for patients, which is informed by a strong theoretical orientation, ample research, and solid training. And, because development is key for both of us, I continue to strengthen my knowledge and skills through continued education, trainings, and regular consultation with peers. Full healing is possible. I believe that people inherently possess the wisdom and strength to make powerful changes in their lives and that everyone deserves a life that is free of stressors and past issues that hold them back from living fully.
