My Background and Approach
I have a BA in Psychology with a minor in Ethic studies from the University of Colorado Denver & a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Psychology from Regis University. I've additional training in addictions &trauma. I’m DBT trained & EMDR certified. My clinical orientation is primarily person centered with some cognitive behavioral, solution focused, gestalt & existentialism woven in. I’ve worked full time as a Behavioral Health Provider in a family medical clinic as a generalist. There I collaborated with medical providers as part of a treatment team focusing on whole body health. This role has afforded me additional experience & hands on training in screening, assessment, diagnosing & understanding of pharmacology & correlations between physical/chronic illness & mental illness. We all have had or will have some mental health concerns at least once in our lifetime. Our body & mind work together. I believe this knowledge & awareness bridges us & reduces some societal stigma.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a huge social justice advocate. I believe Racism, Sexism, Classism, Ableism, Anti-Semitism, Ageism and Heterosexism, Couplism etc. still actively exist and thrive in America. I also believe that I do not earn some ally badge that says "I am done" or "have achieved something and can stop now". I am an active member of the LGBTQ* community. I provide community and organization presentations on this and other cultural issues. Currently I am tackling trying to create space and acceptance of the LGBTQ* population in rural Colorado.
