I help people find their way to a healthy balance between the demands of daily life and the issues that impact them deeply.
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Cincinnati, OH
I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based treatments, along with other CBT techniques to help improve your ability to remain present and ride the wave of anxiety. My focus is on teaching how to feel discomfort and know you will be ok. Trying to "manage" anxiety or develop coping skills can be codes for your brain to avoid, which tends to feed into fear of future anxiety and panic attacks. By decreasing avoidance, anxiety reduces in frequency and intensity.
The current political climate has increased existential angst in many of us to a fever pitch. This can lead us to question our place in the world, our relationships with family, friends, and co-workers, and how we can stay the course without exhausting ourselves in the fight for social justice. As a social justice warrior myself, I can assist with helping you obtain a balance in standing up for your beliefs while maintaining a balance that leaves you space to enjoy your life.
I have intensive training in ACT by one of the preeminent experts in this orientation. I incorporate ACT through the use of officially vetted materials into my daily practice.
I have participated in intensive in-person and experiential MBCT training, and incorporate a variety of mindfulness-based techniques to help decrease avoidance and improve the ability to sit with difficult emotions.
I have participated in each level of Motivational Interviewing through the CCOE at Case Western University, and became a trainer in MI skills as well as the MI Champions group supervisor expert. I use this orientation to help clients make decisions through their own stage of change and readiness through Socratic methods rather than prescribing to a client what they need to do to impact change in their lives.
I provide counseling that is supportive and inclusive of lesbian, bisexual, straight, transgender, non-binary, cisgender, queer, or questioning women. My perspective explores how societal messages and social constructs have been deeply assimilated into our psyches, often leading us to feel we are "not enough" as we are. I help women gain strength to set healthy boundaries, assert themselves, and discover anew what they want their lives to be through self-acceptance and building resilience.
