People who have experienced family and relationship trauma, regardless of how much they desire to avoid living out those experiences, most times come into contact with the same type of experiences. Anxiety is normal, and it is a way of letting our bodies and minds know some things may need to be adjusted in our lives. Anxiety becomes abnormal when it is unable to be regulated. Right now anxiety is the most prevalent mental health concern in the U.S. since the wake of the pandemic. SoulPath assists clients on a daily basis with strategies and interventions to help regulate and normalize anxiety, decrease stress, and create healthy coping mechanisms.
I call depression a big bully. Depression is a mood that will cause you to feel, react and respond in extreme manners. Depression can cause isolation, a lack of motivation, depletion of energy, and drive. SoulPath assists clients with becoming intentional and strategic in activating behaviors that are stifled by depression. In essence, we teach our clients how to BULLY the bully.
CBT is a problem-focused, action-oriented style of talk therapy that teaches clients practical ways to identify, challenge, and replace unhelpful response patterns with adaptive, healthy thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns to reach one's desired goals. Utilizing CBT and psychoanalytic techniques assist clients with an effective therapeutic experience. Client's who have experienced past/childhood trauma can benefit from understanding the root causes and creating healthy thought patterns.
EMDR employs a body-based technique called bilateral simulation during which a therapist will guide a client through eye movements, tones, or taps in order to move a memory that has been incorrectly stored to a more functional part of the brain. EMDR is a proven treatment for clients who have experienced trauma and are still dealing with triggers and intrusive thoughts from the experience. EMDR clients with developing a more rational view and cognition of the event.
The psychoanalytic theory says that our childhood experiences and unconscious desires influence behavior. In essence, personalities have memories, beliefs, urges drives, and instincts that we are not always aware of and that make up this unconscious. SoulPath what we are experiencing in the moment has less to do with what is happening and more to do with what has happened that causes us to think, feel, react and respond. The psychoanalytic approach is key to our treatment of our clients.
