About My Clients
Are you a sensitive or quiet person who feels overwhelmed by the world around you? Do you sometimes feel like your needs are trampled on by others? Do you find yourself experiencing the same problems despite your best efforts to do things differently? I get it. I have been there myself and it's important to know you are not alone. Many of us have difficulty knowing, or even asking for what we need. Therapy can help you feel unstuck and to begin voicing your own needs. I can help you with this.
My Background and Approach
I have spent the past 15 years helping people navigate through very difficult times. I started my career working as a spiritual-care counselor for Hospice. I helped many people who were dying and their families to find strength and meaning in that process. I returned to school and got another master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Naropa University. Directly after graduation, I opened my private practice. I have had a personal mindfulness practice for the past 18 years and am certified as a meditation instructor. I use a mindfulness-based approach to help increase people's awareness around their life and the issues in it. This approach can help you to see more clearly why patterns continue to arise and it offers a way for working directly with your emotions. We will work together to help find your true voice and find ways to help you bring this to the forefront. The insights and suggestions I offer come from my own personal journey and from helping others to grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength. It is your own inner brilliance letting you know that you do not have to do this alone and that together we can build a strong set of resources that can empower us to meet anything that arises. I believe strongly that we are not here to walk through this life by ourselves and that, through relationships, we can heal many old wounds. I care deeply about how people find meaning in their world and will often ask about spiritual beliefs. I have been on my own contemplative spiritual path for many years and will never tell someone how or what to believe in. I am quite liberal and left-leaning in my politics. Growing up, I never quite fit into my families limiting framework. To that end, I welcome those people who wish to push the boundaries and constrictions of our society. Let your freak flag fly! Even if it's small!
