About My Clients
Do you get overwhelmed easily? Have you always felt different or flawed? Do you experience emotions on a deeper level than other people you know? Do you startle easily or find loud noises and chaotic environments difficult? Do you seem to need more "downtime" than others? If yes, you might be a Highly Sensitive Person. Or are you a Baby Boomer and experiencing stress and grief that comes with life changes as we age, including the death of a person or pet? Please know there is help.
My Background and Approach
I experienced a significant amount of loss in my life. I went to counseling in my late thirties and was then able to attend graduate school at the age of 40. When I was 47, I learned that I am a Highly Sensitive Person. I have the life experience AND professional education to help you gain some peace and stability. I do not utilize any one therapeutic technique. You are unique and so are your issues. After discussing your goals with you, I will recommend a variety of tasks that I think could be helpful. I do know that just coming to talk with me one hour a week isn't going to change your life. It's the work you do outside of our sessions that will make the difference. Therefore, I will ask you to do "homework" and then come back with some thoughts and questions. Going to therapy can be life-changing, but isn't always easy or fun. It takes courage to ask for help and then reflect on our pain and what needs to change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Highly Sensitive Person myself, protecting animals and the environment are very important to me. I became a vegetarian in 1992 and a vegan in March 2018. I also volunteer at a program which provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
