About My Clients
As a Black man, I understand the unique experiences of Black men in America and the ways in which these experiences contribute to mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety and stress. I also recognize that Black men are diverse and are not a monolith. With this in mind, I believe that Black men deserve care that understands both the uniqueness and diversity of Black men’s experiences, while also having a cultural awareness of Black men’s mental health needs.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is simple. I am committed to the mental health, emotional wellbeing and general wellness of Black men. This understanding coupled with my formal training and life experience arms me with the unique ability to meet you where you are on your mental health journey and help navigate you toward your desired goals. Professionally, I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Georgia with over 10 years of clinical experience. I specialize in individual therapy and have worked with diverse groups including active duty service members, veterans, people diagnosed with severe mental illness, individuals struggling with substance abuse and addiction, the LGBTQ+ community, adolescents, older adults and people living with HIV/AIDS. I am a graduate of Morehouse College and received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One question I typically ask my clients is “if you had a magic wand how would you use it to change your life?” Most responses do not indicate a want for things such more money, nice cars, or a big house. Instead, they wish for meaningful things like a better relationship with family, to become more assertive in the workplace, to have more confidence and self-esteem and to be truly happy. This is in line with what most people desire, which is to become authentic versions of themselves and to be more connected to the people that they love. These responses highlight the gap existing between what most people possess and what they wish to attain. This gap is where depression and anxiety thrive. My role is to help you navigate the gap through a process that validates your concerns and normalizes them, and provides you tools to create constructive and sustainable practices to transform what you desire into what you possess.
