Judith Cloutier-ChenierCounselor, MA, LAC (Arizona)
I am a genuine and compassionate therapist who provide a safe and judgment free place for you to create lasting changes in your life.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.
Are you tired of the negative inner narrative that says you're never doing enough? Feeling like no one can understand what you're going through? Do you hold yourself to incredibly high standards and feel like you're always doing/giving/taking care of others? Do you struggle with religious or relational trauma? Together we can listen to what you need most, ground through the breath and the body, and practice techniques for alleviating trauma responses while discovering your authentic self.
You feel like you need to be perfect and have your shit together but deep down, your inner critic has taken control of your life. You may be a new parent feeling like you’ve lost yourself during this time that was supposed to be amazing but actually feels overwhelming. You may be an LGBTQIAP+ person who is grappling with embracing your authentic self and living out your true identity. Or you might be a young adult trying to figure out the next step in life and where you belong in the world.
It’s time for you to be free from the crushing pain that has kept you from healthy relationships and a better life. You need healing and skills to face life’s most difficult situations, but your pain and fear have been so overwhelming that you don’t see a way forward. I believe you shouldn’t have to be in such pain, and I understand what it’s like to feel so hopeless. I’ve trained in advanced therapy techniques that have helped many people find hope in their darkest moments.
