Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. I have a passion and experience working with a variety of individuals, including older teenagers, people of color, couples, and individuals who identify with the LGBTQ+ community. My clinical focus includes working through life stressors, depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship conflict. I offer individuals and couples the ability to work together to reduce tension, understand communication patterns, explore "stuck" feelings.

I tend to work with individuals exploring relationships. This might mean their relationship to themselves with feelings of depression, anxiety or self-critique, exploring the vastness of queerness, and making sense of dueling desires. It also can mean dissecting relationships of one's past or digging into current relationships (friends/romantic/queer-platonic). I do this in individual therapy as well as with partner(s). I work most often with teenagers and adults.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.
