It's my opinion (and research supports this) that building supportive spaces where individuals can explore their authentic selves and change unhelpful patterns is the most effective way to do therapy. I support the well-being of adults and adolescents experiencing overwhelming emotions, challenging histories, and complex mental health problems. All too often we trade expressing our genuine selves for safety, which can lead to blame, resentment, anxiety, and inexplicable grief.

It is important that we all feel seen and heard; we need that more than ever before. We need spaces created for us to heal wounds developed from adverse and traumatic experiences. We need room to acknowledge and address our pain. We need opportunity for self—self-reflection and expression. Leavell Counseling, LLC is committed to providing quality counseling services to individuals desiring more—more growth and more change. I look forward to supporting you in your process of growth and change.

Actually, you used to really enjoy your life, even on the tough days. But now, it's like the only thing you want to do is hide. Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

A year from now you will wish you had started today. My passion is working with adolescents and young adults struggling with life transitions, relationship issues and those in the LGBTQIA community. My therapy approach, drawing from several theoretical orientations, is client-centered, based on the belief that every individual is unique. Regardless of any human condition, characteristic, or circumstance you will be celebrated as a human being.
I have been working with trauma for many years using EMDR, and have found that trauma often impacts survivors in lasting ways including addiction, trouble with intimate relationships, and sexuality. I have worked with addictions my entire career and have become more proficient in my ability to treat sexual issues as well as sexual compulsions and addictions. For sex therapy clients, I welcome both individuals and couples for sessions.
Are you ready to hear hard truths about yourself, engage in uncomfortable conversations, and come to terms with difficult realities? Ready to break out of the boxes that limit your ability to reach full potential and live a fulfilled life? Is your relationship boring, fractured, or come to an end and you're having to co-parent? Are you engaged and looking for a robust premarital experience? I work with individuals and couples in all of these areas in both secular and spiritual realms.
While I am open to working with clients from all populations, my ideal client is one who is open to and ready for change, realizing the current situation isn’t working. I have over 20 years of experience working with families and youth working for non-profit social welfare agencies.
Are you or a loved one overwhelmed with anxiety, feeling down, or lacking motivation or self-confidence? Many of my clients are grappling with intrusive thoughts and memories that won't go away. They find themselves always on edge, looking over their shoulder, and feeling irritable and distracted. Often, they struggle to see their own worth and feel guilt and shame about past experiences. They feel like they don't have any control in life. An eclectic approach with EMDR can help.

You feel anxious and it's hard to shut your brain off. People tell you to relax, but it's not that easy for you. You've worked hard to get where you are, but it's hard to sit back and enjoy it. Your standards for yourself feel too high, and you question how long you can keep this up. You tend to doubt yourself and your abilities and look to other people to reassure you. It's hard to take up space, feel confident, and speak your truth. A better way forward is possible in therapy.
Maybe anxiety has made your world small and lonely, or depression and feelings of worthlessness have kept you disconnected from yourself and your loved ones and have held you back from the life you want. Perhaps you've developed ways of engaging with others and with yourself that once protected you in difficult or traumatic circumstances; however, these patterns now result in pain that is becoming unbearable. Whatever suffering brings you here, you don't have to bear it alone.
I work with adults and teens 14 years old and up from varying cultural backgrounds struggling with issues including, but not limited to, LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity issues, body image, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, grief, sexuality, PTSD, and personality disorders.
Are you questioning or looking for support related to your LGBTQIA+ identity? Contemplating your gender or a possible transition? Considering coming out to your friends and loved ones? Wanting to address your feelings of depression and anxiety? Hoping to address a history of trauma that impacts you still? Wrestling with body image or disordered eating? Come sit with me for awhile! Let's join together to keep you moving forward to to where you are meant to be.

The to-do list is never-ending and what’s done never feels quite enough. You are diligent about keeping on top of things and it’s gotten you pretty far. But, you find yourself asking “I’m running myself ragged for this?” Well, you are not alone. My clients are busy, professionals who feel stressed, anxious, and struggle with imposter syndrome. They seem put together on the outside but struggle with burnout and feeling like they are one step away from catastrophe.
Even the "little" things feel overwhelming. Balancing work, relationships, and that inner voice that says you're not good enough is a constant struggle. Dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or relationship distress can make you feel like you're losing control. Despite looking like you've got your shit together, you're plagued with self-doubt, irritability, and a sense of hopelessness, and it's hard to make lasting changes. To put it plainly, life feels exhausting.
I operate from a client centered perspective, which means that your unique needs, values, and goals are at the heart of our therapeutic relationship. I provide a non-judgmental and compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences openly and authentically. Together, we will work collaboratively to help you gain insight, make positive changes, and achieve a sense of balance and well being.
Have you hit a wall? Do you feel like everything you have tried isn't working? Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by our situation that it's hard to fathom any solution. My role is to be the neutral party that can objectively look at your struggle and help you develop the tools you need to reach a resolution. My ideal clients reflect on our discussions between sessions, engage in behavior change, have a sense of humor, and are willing to do the work.
