Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy, first developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, to treat patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Since then, DBT’s use has broadened and now it is regularly employed as part of a treatment plan for people struggling with behaviors or emotions they can't control. This can include eating disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, and more. DBT is a skills-based approach that focuses on helping people increase their emotional and cognitive control by learning the triggers that lead to unwanted behaviors. Once triggers are identified, DBT teaches coping skills that include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. A therapist specializing in DBT will help you to enhance your own capabilities, improve your motivation, provide support in-the-moment, and better manage your own life with problem-solving strategies. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s DBT specialists today.

In my office, my number one goal is for all to feel welcome and to find an unbiased empathetic clinician. I have experience working with families, children, teens, and adults who are going through life transitions, have suffered from a trauma, are struggling with addiction, or just need a little assistance staying on-top of their mental health.

Our mission is to provide more accessible services to underserved clients, particularly in the LGBTQIA+ community, folx with neurodivergence, racial and ethnic minorities, and for other underserved populations who lack access to in-person services, or lack access to counselors competent in these areas due to living in areas that are smaller, more rural, or more conservative. All appointments take place online through a secure video platform. Email contact is preferred for scheduling.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Is your internal dialogue filled with self-defeating stories? Stories such as "My anxiety is too severe to live a normal life" or "No one likes me, which is why I'm so depressed." Perhaps you think, "my partner no longer loves or cares about me, and it's all my fault." It's easy to believe that your life will never improve. But have you considered whether these are facts or merely the stories you tell yourself?

I enjoy working with clients who are up for a little work. I have a strong belief in the idea that therapy isn't something that is done to us, rather something we must take an active role in to see any true progress. I view therapy as another way to add more tools to our toolbox in an effort to better ourselves. My goal isn't to have a client for life; it is to teach the skills needed for my client to be their best selves, even after we have finished working together.
