Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.
Since its founding in 2019, Embrace has treated individuals who have been impacted by trauma, struggling with anxiety and mood disorders, and those in need of addiction recovery support. Engaging in therapy means committing to yourself and your own growth. I work most effectively with people who take themselves seriously and are willing to put in the time needed for deep and enduring growth. I am willing to work with anyone who is committed to themselves and their own growth. Of the populations I serve, approximately 60% identify as people of color, and 85% identify as members of LGBTQ communities.

I am particularly dedicated to those who have been excluded from mainstream therapeutic spaces. My expertise is with queer and trans communities; sex workers, poly / ENM, kink / BDSM communities, neurodiverse and disabled communities; and substance users. My approach is informed by my shared identities and experiences with these communities. I work with survivors of Intimate Partner Violence; childhood and adult sexual violence; attachment and complex trauma; hate and institutional violence.

Grief can impact every aspect of life: relationships, behaviors, thoughts and emotions. Emotional pain can make you dread going to sleep, waking up, eating and even interacting with loved ones. Losing a loved one, having a life dream shattered or learning something about yourself or a family member that shakes you to the core can feel incredibly isolating. But major losses in life can also open doors to big transformations. That's what therapy is for, it can help you get to the other side.
