Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. If you think you may be experiencing PTSD, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s specialists today to get help.

I hope to serve those seeking to strengthen their connection with themselves and those around them by empowering their authentic identity. The stressors of everyday life can become overwhelming with the uncertainty of tomorrow. We quickly become filled with anxiety when feeling unprepared for these uncertainties. With our bodies designed for survival, symptoms of anxiety become easily integrated into our daily life, creating the cognitive distortion that life is bleak and unfulfilling.

I work primarily with persons with a history of sexual assault and other traumas. Their issues are pervasive and complex, experiencing an array of symptoms and potential triggers such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, enuresis, sleep disturbance, anger, panic attacks, and more. These clients want to navigate life without fear and regain a sense of purpose and safety. Often, they want to find the will to live and quiet suicidal thoughts.

What’s underneath it all still hasn’t been dealt with, though you want to. You hold the healing that IOP and Inpatient offered, longing to break the cycle you know too well: Inpatient, IOP, back to the community. You remember the groups, use the TIPP skills, and it helps you ride the tidal wave. You’re split though, there’s part of you ready to tackle it headstrong, and another part of you is sweating it like the iced coffee that waters down at your desk. And you are terrified you can’t keep up.
