Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.

Trapped in a hamster wheel. Body feels tight and mind is constantly on edge. Life feels empty and overwhelming at the same time. Relationships are failing and your needs are not met. You can put up a smile and say, "I'm doing good!" anytime, but you are not... you never did. So you open your fridge to get a buzz and scroll mindlessly on your phone... until your soul is numbed and silenced once again. But deep within, you know your soul desires to be seen. That's where I come in.

You have been wondering if maybe you are neurodivergent but don’t know where to start exploring your beautiful neurodiversity. You have recently become a parent and realize you are having a hard time with the sensory aspects of parenthood. You are a new college student and realize that you have been masking, or hiding your authentic self, due to societal expectations.

I believe all clients come to therapy with unique, current concerns, that are often times rooted in a past trauma that they have experienced. Working to identify the root cause and then addressing the situation, whether it be relationship or family related, depression, anxiety, or even career comes shortly after identifying the underlying issues.

I am passionate about providing trauma-focused, culturally competent mental health care to clients of all identities. I specialize in treating trauma, PTSD/complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, addiction and first responder trauma. Often, my clients feel stuck in their symptoms, which hold them back from enjoying comfort in their daily lives. These symptoms could include panic attacks, feeling disconnected from others, or waves of sadness, all of which can lead to unhealthy self-medication.
