Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

I specialize in helping teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or the struggle to embrace their true identities. If you find it hard to navigate relationships, school, work, or feel lost, you’re not alone. Many experience the pressure of societal expectations, leading to isolation and emotional pain. I believe that you deserve to live authentically and that change is possible. Together, we can explore your feelings and work towards healing and growth.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

As I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients and others who have been impacted by marginalization, issues often arise around self-worth, anxiety, co-dependency, shame, assertiveness, attachment and depression. The therapy session is a space to untangle the complex threads of experience that have led to these outcomes and to practice new ways of being. I currently accept Aetna and Cigna for Michigan clients.
