Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

For as long as I can remember, I recognized a fire in me to be able to provide a safe place for those who needed it. Speaking as a queer woman, my lived experiences have directed me towards becoming an advocate for systemic equality and transformation. My passions lie in trauma-informed care, gender-affirming care, and helping high conflict relationships of all backgrounds navigate through their journey. I strive to cultivate a non-judgmental environment that allows for connection and validity.
Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Too often we encounter stress and challenges in our lives that we struggle to meet and resolve in healthy and constructive ways. As a result, we can become isolated and lonely, panicked, and anxious by stress or circumstance that threaten to overwhelm us, or sometimes just “stuck” and unsatisfied. Perhaps our old ways of coping with life are no longer as helpful as they once were. We may feel unhappy with ourselves, where we are, and the things we do.

Are there times or situations where you'd like a helping hand, but feel overwhelmed explaining your background to someone who may not understand? I know what that feels like. I believe that everyone needs at least one person in their life that "breathes life" into that person. Just as we need air to breathe, we need affirmation, understanding & connection--especially when dealing with our most intimate issues. Before we can bare our souls, we must be able to trust someone. Learning to take that first step is the hardest, but I will be there to journey alongside you teaching you to trust yourself and encourage you to learn new tools to thrive again.
