Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

I specialize in working with adults and teens navigating life's challenges like relationships, unresolved trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress management, or exploring identity and values. They aren’t looking for a quick fix but know something needs to change and need a little help figuring out what and how. Being a human is hard sometimes, but you don’t have to figure it out alone!

I believe in Dr. Stephen Shore’s quote, “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” If you are looking for growth or emotional healing and have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis (ASD), or share attributes with ASD, I would love to help! I practice mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, ages 11 to 111. You can meet with me outdoors via walk and talk/outdoor seated therapy, or by traditional telehealth/in-office therapy.
