Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.

I approach all of my work from a holistic lens that treats the individual and systems that they are apart of. I specialize in trauma work, couples therapy, eating disorders, and attachment-based trauma and relational issues. I believe that everyone can heal from their old wounds, develop self-compassion, and self-love by breaking down their old patterns and integrating new skills into their life.
Many of my clients are exploring what it means to be their most authentic self, and how to deal with the barriers that stand in their way. They're looking for a place to be seen and understood, and to be able to let down their guard. I see clients with significant trauma histories, anxiety, and depression, looking for relief and a deeper healing that takes them to a place of ease and fulfillment. They may have tried other solutions, but feel stuck and eager for a lasting and meaningful change.

I often work with anxious achievers, overanalyzers, and people who spend a lot of time in their heads. Many of my clients organize their lives around anxiety, fear, or worries and may struggle with decision-making or uncertainty. My typical success cases are motivated to make changes AND learn how to maintain their progress (without relying on therapy!).
