Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. Many people I work with have been in therapy before and learned cognitive or mindfulness skills that, while helpful, don't seem to go deep enough. Maybe this is true for you, too--in spite of all your best efforts, you still feel anxious and depressed, struggle with obsessive thoughts, or feel stuck in old patterns. I can help you get to the root of your problems instead of just looking at the surface-level symptoms, so that you can get back to living life fully and joyfully.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Often, we're taught to shy away from the uncomfortable: the wounds, the hurt places. We label them as “bad” or “problems”, and do whatever we can to cope, instead of healing that pain. I specialize in working with folks who have experienced trauma, feel they don’t fit into society’s boxes, or seek deeper self-exploration. Together, we reconnect to your body and emotions, break out of old patterns that aren’t serving you, and move into the life you want.
