My background is in CBT, family systems, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, and trauma-informed treatment. I have particular expertise in how Internet technology and media shape relationships and individual well-being.

This work may include exploring self-identity and ways of being in the world; ways of attenuating distractions and other forces impacting executive function; evaluating present skill sets and implementing other coping skills as needed.
Is anxiety an illness in an anxious world? It is one of the first and healthiest responses to distress in the human arsenal. Yet, it can also create further distress and seem like a trap rather than a useful impetus. My approach to anxiety starts with identifying causes, some you will likely already have identified (Thanks Ariel, tell me something I didn't know!) and some that likely have flown under the radar for quite a while. Relationships tie us to people to who help us through difficult and painful times. Sometimes, relationships tie us to people in ways that feel difficult and painful themselves. Counseling can offer alternatives to the suggestions put forward by the brain in distress (e.g., fight, flee) and help individuals, couples, and polycules take a healthier approach.
I use EMDR as an adjunct to talk therapy. It is often useful in unblocking difficulties that are tied to strong emotions or physiological responses.
Individual problems are never truly individual in nature. Family systems provide a means of understanding the individual within larger social systems and expand the repertoire of possible solutions to problems in kind.
Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy serve as a complement to cognitive-behavioral and externally focused frameworks. This practice allows us to use the best tools available in therapy, that is, the proverbial tuning forks of those in the office, to help you better understand patterns that underlie problems that may keep returning to your doorstep throughout your life.
