Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.

Most clients already know what their struggles are, whether that’s communication issues, difficulty connecting with and trusting others, people-pleasing, struggles coping with emotions and triggers, lack of boundaries, anxiety, inability to feel happy even when things are good - the list goes on! What they don’t know is WHY they struggle and WHAT TO DO to change it! And that’s where I step in. My goal as a therapist is to help you answer the question of: “So what do I DO about this now?"

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I work best with relationships. I'm most passionate about working with intimate partnerships, no matter their status or structure. I have a special interest in working with non-normative relationships (non-monogamy, polyamory, kink/BDSM). On an individual level, I love working with sex (erotic energy, desire, etc.), sexual orientation, and gender (identity and expression). Pretty much anything that intersects with sexuality is my jam, normative or otherwise.

I believe in a strength-based approach, helping people use their inherent strengths to overcome challenges. When appropriate, I like to sprinkle in humor to create a warm and relatable atmosphere. Genuineness and comfortability is important, especially when taking the leap to start therapy, being transparent is something that I strive for.

My clients are high achieving, motivated, experience life deeply (even if they don't always show the world) and come to me when they are feeling stuck in their relationships. My clients often have trauma in their background, and come to me when they decide it is time to do work around whatever that is. I enjoy working with individuals and couples on increasing their ability to connect with the people who are most important in their lives, as well as increasing their understanding of themselves.

I work with adults who want to process past trauma and relearn how to feel safe in the present. I often work with people who grew up in dysfunctional families, and have experienced neglect and abuse in close relationships. These experiences often lead to secondary challenges such as depression, anxiety, and relational difficulties. I work with clients to reconnect to their authentic selves. As a queer-identified therapist, I also provide affirming care for individuals from the LGBTQ+ community.

Taking the first step towards your journey of healing can be a difficult decision to make. Opening the path to what has brought us deep suffering can be scary and at the same time, exactly what we need in order to begin to build a life grounded on what is important to us. It is easy to lose sight of of these things when we spend our time trying our hardest to get rid of or avoid our pain. My hope is that I am able to guide you on this journey to find a clearer path.
