Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy, first developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, to treat patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Since then, DBT’s use has broadened and now it is regularly employed as part of a treatment plan for people struggling with behaviors or emotions they can't control. This can include eating disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, and more. DBT is a skills-based approach that focuses on helping people increase their emotional and cognitive control by learning the triggers that lead to unwanted behaviors. Once triggers are identified, DBT teaches coping skills that include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. A therapist specializing in DBT will help you to enhance your own capabilities, improve your motivation, provide support in-the-moment, and better manage your own life with problem-solving strategies. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s DBT specialists today.

I typically work with children, teens, adults and families. I work with children and teens on issues such as anxiety, stress management, navigating family roles, identity and relationship concerns. I work with adults on employment/career concerns, relational difficulties, family of origin issues, complex trauma, anxiety and panic attacks. I work with my client's to help them increase their self-confidence, navigate stressful life events and build healthy, supportive relationships with others.

I work with primarily young adults and adults, and have found that many clients appreciate the humor and overall "realness" I bring into sessions. I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, life transitions, interpersonal relationship issues, family conflict, low self-esteem, eating disorders, and more.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Many of my clients come to therapy stuck in the same patterns, unsure how to break the cycle but knowing they want to make a change. I help my clients understand where these patterns come from, how these patterns served them in the past, and empower them to shed those parts they have outgrown. I collaborate with my clients to integrate their past experiences with greater bodily and emotional awareness in order to make choices with agency and authentic presence.
