About My Clients
I work primarily with older teens, young adults and adults. Many of the client's I have worked with experience anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, grief/loss, life transitions, interpersonal relationship issues, family conflict, low self-esteem, or eating disorders.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University. I am now a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate, and work under a supervisor. During my studies, I was able to accrue thousands of hours of practice/experience through individual counseling, psychoeducation, group counseling, and trainings. When meeting with clients, I always ensure the client feels the counseling relationship between us feels natural and the right fit for them. If it does not feel like the right fit for them, I aid in finding referral options so they do not potentially feel as overwhelmed with seeking out a different counselor. I feel it is important to bring some of my own personality into sessions so the environment does not feel sterile, and as a way to connect with clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that bringing personality and authenticity into the counseling room is essential to establishing a supportive therapeutic relationship. Continuously exposing ourselves to other cultures and ways of life allows for a better understanding and connection between us and those who may not share similar attributes. I believe that during the counseling process, I can learn just as much from a client as they may from me. I strive to provide an accepting and safe environment, where all of my clients feel they are supported, respected, and valued.
