About My Clients
Have you ever felt that your mind and body are not in sync? Have you felt something weird internally but you didn't know how to describe it? Body movement is our native language and a primal way of learning, processing, and communicating. While dealing with a busy life, we tend to forget to listen to our bodies which store and carry our memories and may develop various struggles. I will help you explore unprocessed feelings and experiences kept in the body and find the mind-body cohesion.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in DC and Virginia, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland, and Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist. My goal is to help you acknowledge and trust your own strengths to overcome any struggles. I see the therapeutic process as a collaboration between client and therapist. The therapeutic space is like an experimental lab where we can try and try until we find what we seek. The process may not be as fast and smooth as we wish, yet we can learn and grow from each step we take. We work together toward the goals. With my belief that our physiology and psychology are inseparable, I utilize mindfulness-based, body-oriented interventions, and creative experiential activities as therapeutic tools, along with verbal interventions, to support you in making choices for the integration, understanding, and change you seek.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe everyone has the potential to heal and grow regardless of their age, gender, social status, experience, background, and depth of pain. You may feel stuck and out of balance with difficult feelings, memories, behaviors, or thoughts. They were learned and developed with the intention of helping you survive through certain environments; however, when they remained unprocessed, they could cause various difficulties in your current life. Besides, while coping strategies associated with those experiences were necessary in the past, when they are not updated as you go, they could be ineffective and rather hurtful. I will help you work through unprocessed experiences by creating a safe space, acknowledging unmet needs, and updating internalized thoughts and strategies. With a holistic view of a person as a complex being with different facets and strengths, I aim to facilitate my clients' self-exploration toward recreating wholeness.
