About My Clients
Do you suspect that you may be struggling with posttraumatic stress or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Do you experience moods swings that have little rhyme or reason? Do you find yourself "drifting off" and having trouble coming back to the present? Trouble sleeping? Do you find yourself acting impulsively? Or perhaps you're having trouble in your relationships? Together we can figure out what is going on, build resilience, and invite peace and calm into your life.
My Background and Approach
For my clients experiencing traumatic stress, I want you to know that PTSD does not have to last forever. It is a curable disorder. We will go along at your pace using either Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET)--the two most effective therapies for overcoming PTSD. We will discuss the differences between the two approaches during our initial session. I have had the pleasure of working with older veterans who suffered for decades from PTSD and within a few months no longer had symptoms. There is great reason to hope that your efforts in therapy will give you the relief you desire and deserve. For my clients with ADHD, we are birds of a feather! I have ADHD and use it to my advantage. Hyperfixation is a superpower when direct towards your goals. Our non-linear thinking lends to creativity, novel solutions, and enhanced empathy. I can help you maximize these positive traits while helping you to get organized and build positive coping skills.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I have spent a good deal of time volunteering at local PRIDE events before the pandemic started. I began volunteering again with the Black Lives Matter movement prior to the most recent elections. I believe in the power of peaceful protests to bring visibility to communities who are oppressed and to motivate others to join in the process of dismantling systemic racism in the United States. Now I am working from home and donate regularly to LGBTQIA+ and BLM charities with each paycheck. I view life as a wonderful opportunity to experience good in the world, but also as a responsibility to make things better for our youth and those yet to come. Please know that your culture and identity will be respected and valued in the therapy space we will create together.
