About My Clients

When I meet someone who is BIPOC or queer or both, I hear them describe a traumatic childhood of abuse and neglect that makes it easy for them to overachieve, but hard for them to accept themselves and love themselves. On the outside, they have it all, but inside, they still feel empty. People of color and people living in the queer community experiencing anxiety and depression while also healing from trauma need to work with a therapist who gets it.

My Background and Approach

I am a licensed professional clinical counselor and certified rehabilitation counselor who specializes in working with folks in the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities who live with anxiety, depression, and are recovering from childhood trauma. Let’s work together to help you unlearn unhealthy and unhelpful lessons and habits you were taught in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. These lessons and habits no longer serve you; they do not affirm you or validate you. Let’s build a new way of viewing yourself and living your life.

Why I Became a Therapist

I became a parent at age 19. I was overwhelmed with parenting an infant, attending college, and working full-time. I went to my college counseling center. With a counselor’s help, I was able to understand that I had repressed my childhood sexual trauma. The therapist explained that the rage that would bubble up over the tiniest infraction, the antagonistic way I navigated my romantic relationships, and my parenting approach of being overprotective were all trauma responses. I was living with symptoms of complex PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder. Having a mental health professional explain that my unhealthy coping skills were trauma responses helped me make different choices as a parent and inspired my career choice. As a mental health professional, I am dedicated to helping individuals have healthier families, healthier relationships, and engage in healthy parenting practices. I am honored to be a part of a profession that helps people heal.
