I'm Robyn, an LPC & LCHMC with a passion for working with trauma survivors & adults wanting to heal wounds & grow in life.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.
Whether you’ve tried therapy in the past or this is your first time, I will create a safe space for you to explore even the most challenging feelings without fear of judgment or shame. I have experience working with clients of various backgrounds who are dealing with issues such as grief, loss and anger, substance abuse, trauma (sexual, physical & emotional abuse), abandonment/ attachment issues, anxiety, depression, and family conflicts.
I understand how trauma shapes your life, causing overwhelming emotions. I specialize in complex stress and trauma (CPTSD) caused by emotional distress rooted in early life experiences. I also treat low self-esteem, anxiety, guilt, depression, and religious trauma. Self-discovery is a vital part of the healing process. I'll guide you to deepen and heal your relationship with yourself.
Trauma and pain from past and present experiences can stop your life in its tracks, leaving you stuck in the same patterns, of thinking, feeling and behaving that eventually lead to building a life that is less than what you've hoped for. With some guidance you can pause, learn tools, gain insights and power where and how to change your life's direction. I honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to ask for help, to look at our wounds, to embrace the messy parts of our lives.
